About Shadow Hill Retrievers

At Shadow Hill Retrievers, we are deeply committed to preserving and showcasing the exceptional versatility of the Boykin Spaniel as a true dual-purpose sporting dog. We are proud to be a Boykin Spaniel Society Silver Level Preferred Breeder and Sponsor Member, and we triple register all of our dogs through the BSS, AKC, and UKC to uphold the highest standards of accountability and breed integrity.

Every dog in our program completes all BSS-recommended health testing prior to consideration for breeding, reflecting our commitment to genetic soundness, structural excellence, and superior performance. We actively hunt with the dogs we own and campaign them in both upland and retriever hunt tests and trials. Our dogs embody equal parts form and function — earning AKC Champion and Grand Champion titles in the show ring while proving their ability and drive in the field.

Founder Adelaide Lloyd attributes the program’s success to an intuitive understanding of canine behavior, a dedication to purposeful training, and a deep passion for preserving the integrity, temperament, and working ability of the Boykin Spaniel breed.

Adelaide Lloyd

Owner Handler & Professional Trainer

Adelaide “Addie” Lloyd earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Stetson University in Spring 2022, graduating with double majors in Marketing and Professional Sales. She went on to complete her Master of Business Administration in Spring 2024, combining her business acumen with her lifelong passion for working dogs.

An avid waterfowl and upland game bird hunter, Addie has been immersed in the sporting lifestyle from an early age. Her journey into the world of gundogs began in April 2017 with her Golden Retriever, Shadow Hill’s Boone Doc. Originally trained as her personal hunting companion, Boone made countless memorable retrieves alongside her family and quickly became the foundation of her passion for retriever training. Under Addie’s guidance, Boone earned multiple hunt test titles, igniting her commitment to developing dogs that excel in both performance and partnership.

Today, Addie actively trains and campaigns her dogs in retriever and upland venues while continuing to expand her expertise within the sporting dog community. She currently serves as President of the Southern Boykin Spaniel Club and is a licensed HRC Judge, reflecting her dedication to leadership, education, and the continued advancement of the breed.

Partnerships

Shadow Hill Retrievers is proud to be sponsored by Alpha Dog Nutrition and Over Under Clothing, partnerships that align with our commitment to performance, quality, and the sporting lifestyle. We are also honored to guide hunts with our dogs at Jacobs Plantation in Nahunta, Georgia, where our dogs regularly demonstrate the drive, steadiness, and field ability that define our program.

Health Testing

We firmly believe that responsible breeding begins with comprehensive health screening. Conditions such as hip dysplasia and other inherited diseases can be significantly reduced through thoughtful, selective breeding practices. Protecting the long-term health and integrity of our beloved breed is a responsibility we take seriously.

At Shadow Hill Retrievers, we complete all parent club recommended health screenings for every dog considered for our breeding program and submit the results to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA). Once a dog has completed and recorded all required breed-specific health clearances, it is issued a CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) number — a transparent verification of health testing compliance.

We encourage prospective puppy buyers to independently verify these results through the OFA database by searching a dog’s registered name or registration number. When evaluating breeders, documented and publicly accessible health clearances should always be a non-negotiable standard.
