Banks joined the Shadow Hill family in November 2023 to further his field training while continuing an impressive career in the show ring. Earning his AKC Grand Championship and finishing as the #5 Boykin Spaniel in the 2020 AKC National Owner-Handled Series, Banks has proven himself as both a talented competitor and an exceptional representative of the breed. In the field, Banks is poetry in motion — hunting with intensity, confidence, and a smooth, effortless style that is captivating to watch. His natural ability is deeply rooted in his pedigree, as his dam, “Kit,” made history as the first Boykin Spaniel ever to earn both Master Hunter Retriever and Master Hunter Upland titles. Following a beautiful appearance at Westminster 2024, Banks continues to embody the versatility, athleticism, and presence that define the Boykin Spaniel breed. Co-owned by Leslie Kern, Brian Parker, and myself, Banks is truly a once-in-a-lifetime dog, and I look forward to continuing his legacy of excellence for years to come.

Powerfully driven with unmistakable style in the field, Roux earned his Seasoned Hunting Retriever title by just 2 years of age and spends each Fall and Winter as both my personal hunting companion and a crowd-favorite flushing dog on guided upland plantation hunts. Rougaroux is a true heat-seeking missile in the field — fast, gritty, stylish, and relentless — making him one of the most exciting dogs I’ve ever had the privilege to watch work. At the 2024, 2025, and 2026 SBSC Winter Roustabouts, Roux claimed 1st place each year by finding, flushing, and retrieving all three quail in under four minutes every time. Equally talented as a waterfowl retriever, Roux works intelligently through heavy cover and dense lily pads with natural problem-solving ability and exceptional handling. Rougaroux obtained his UKC Champion title and is AKC major pointed. With the Seasoned hunting retriever title, multiple field trial placements, and Conformation Champion title to his name, Roux embodies true versatility and represents the quintessential Boykin Spaniel — equally at home in the uplands, the marsh, and the show ring.

Powerfully built, Rochambeaux commands attention with his confidence, athleticism, and effortless movement—bringing a commanding presence wherever he goes. A true “big motor” dog with exceptional marking ability, he was one of only ten dogs to complete the fifth and final series of Novice at the 2024 Boykin Spaniel Society National Championship at just 14 months of age, competing against a field of 78 dogs. Without ever running Junior or Senior hunt tests, Rochambeaux has gone an impressive 4-for-4 with Master passes toward his AKC Master Hunter spaniel title. Rochambeaux has also made an undeniable impression in the show ring despite limited showing. He completed his AKC Championship with three consecutive 5-point major wins, earning an Owner-Handled Group 2 placement in a large Sporting Group on the very day he became a Champion. With the kind of type and presence that leaves a lasting impression, Rochambeaux combines beauty, instinct, and trainability in a way that reflects generations of proven, real hunting Boykin Spaniels.

Forest is sired by Banks and is a “nephew” to Rochambeaux. Currently in training with Axieom Gundogs in New York, Forest showed a natural affinity for upland game work from a very young age. Cross-training is something we value highly, and Forest’s versatility as both a skilled waterfowl retriever and stylish flushing spaniel reflects exactly what we strive to produce. Forest possesses exceptional drive and adaptability, while remaining a true gentleman both at home and in the field. He closely resembles Banks in both structure and temperament, carrying a smaller yet well-boned, sturdy build. His headpiece and expression unmistakably reflect Banks’ distinctive type and character. With his natural ability, biddable attitude, and promising future ahead, we look forward to the many adventures still to come with this special boy.
